Climate Leadership Programme

Climate Leadership Programme

Climate change is arguably the most serious global risk faced by humanity.

Delivering reductions in greenhouse gas emissions required to limit climate change and adapting to the impacts of an already changing climate requires visionary leadership and action on an unprecedented scale by governments, businesses, and civil society.

Despite much effort, numerous studies and many positive steps, global emissions of greenhouse gases continue to rise and look to rise again this year. Limiting global warming to less than 2°C now looks impossible. And there are already signs of climate impact on the Arctic and on weather patterns.

Climate Answers is developing a climate leadership programme to equip aspiring young environmentalists to contribute to the sustained leadership that is needed now and in the decades ahead.

Climate Answers aims to help build a more sustainable future through promoting projects and individuals who will develop local solutions to global issues.

The exceptional people who participate in the programme will be equipped to adapt to the wide, constantly changing agenda climate change presents and help produce innovative solutions through fully supported work placements in industry, environmental research and development, business and policy. They will deepen their understanding of climate change and sustainable development and gain experience of working in different kinds of organisations.

Programme structure

Over the duration of the programme, participants will spend periods of secondment with environmental campaigning organisations, policy makers, non-governmental or delivery organisations and private companies. Each participant will be placed under the auspices of a host organisation and supported by an experienced mentor throughout the programme.

The outcome will be a cadre of young environmental leaders equipped with a better understanding of how different kinds of organisations operate and of how to influence and effect change by government, organisations and wider society.
